“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit […] and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: ‘Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.'” (CCC 1213)

Infant Baptism – ages 0 – 6

Infants are baptized in the Church based on the faith and desire of their parents. Rosary Cathedral Parish typically celebrates baptisms on the third weekend of the month during or after Mass. Other times may be available upon request. Parents are required to attend a class before the baptism of their first child. This class is typically held on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm, although other times can be scheduled. A parent having their children baptized must have the intention to raise their children in the faith, which is primarily expressed by their plan to bring the child to First Communion and Confirmation. For more information about having your child baptized at Rosary Cathedral, contact the parish office.

Child Baptism – ages 7 – 15

Once a child has reached the age of reason (the ability to make choices) they receive the Sacrament of Baptism through the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) adapted for children. This process typically takes one to two years and includes religious education classes with grade-level peers, prayer rites, and a commitment to live the faith.

Adult Baptism – ages 16+

Adults are baptized as part of the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) process.  Go Here for more about the RCIA.
